Media and technology have the power to connect people worldwide, to expose injustice, and to hold government and corporations accountable to the public interest.

But far too often they fail to do so. Witness ongoing attempts by media companies and policymakers to censor the Internetgouge consumerssuppress press freedomdefund public mediaconcentrate media ownershipoutsource news and conceal who is paying to influence voters.

At Free Press, we believe that progress on any important issue requires media that inform, engage and are open and accessible to all. In other words, we need healthy, democratic media to compel Washington to heed the public interest. And the only way to get the media we envision is through better media policy.

The good news: Media and technology issues are resonating with more and more people.
